Handicap 10k race

The 30th Anniversary Closed handicap race was the biggest ever with 44 runners entered and 36 actually completing the course. Our thanks go to our friends from Grantham Athletic club who not only joined us for the run but provided John and Jackie to do the timing and Paul helping with the number distribution and marshalling, they also sent one of the most powerful MV60 quartets in the county.

The race was run over the fast Classic Solstice course whilst a few seconds slower than the current one was chosen as it has the start and finish in the same place. The weather was ideal for a quick time and the field did not disappoint 21 either season’s bests or personal bests.

Our winner was Holly Durham slicing almost three minutes off her time at the Sleaford 10k a few weeks earlier followed by Mark Wilson two minutes inside his predicted time as he approaches peak fitness ready for his marathon. The unique format of this race always help the less experienced runners find a better pace than ever before as they are sucked along at a speed they did not believe they could sustain. Our thanks go to the guys who ran despite being injured or had an upcoming major race. The table below is sortable by any column.

The photograph shows some of the runners enjoying refreshment after the race. We would like to credit Andrew MacAllister for bringing the tent and equipment, Gordon for the pre-entry registration, Ben Mason for the calculations, Andrew Pask for Food and drink, Catherine Davies for sweep vehicle, Mark Wilson for laying out the course and posting on the website, Pete, Ben and Lucy for marshalling and of course everyone who ran or supported at the event.
