Cross Country teams in Lincoln

A mixed group of 14 Grantham Running Club members took part in a cross country event at Riseholme in Lincoln on Sunday. The club was well represented at what was the third race of this season’s Lincolnshire Cross Country League.

The men’s team consisting of Mark Wilson, Marc Tremain, Dean Riggall, Christopher Armstrong and Gordon Geech put in a fine performance with Dean Riggall the first team member home. The lady’s including Anna Wilson, Catherine Payne, Sarah High, Nikki Carr, Lucy Roberts, Ruth Dunstan, Penny Hodges and Gwenda Williams placed from 4th to 45th with top spot being taken by Anna O’Hare.

The tough off road course was muddy and wet and was testing for both teams.

Scoffield Takes Bronze in Ultra Marathon

Grantham Running Club’s Abi Scofield (right in photo) finished at the sharp end of the ladies’ race in the Kings Forest 50km Ultra event.

Abi was the second lady to finish covering the scenic Thetford Forest course in a time of 4:52:00.

Newark Parkrun

Grantham Running Club fielded two runners in Newark park run last weekend in Newark. Gordon Geech ran a solid 23:51 at the event attended by 126 runners. He finished 21st overall and was the 9th man to cross the finish line. Nick Payne finished in 24th place overall with a great time of 24:06.

Man vs Bike

Mark Hillson competed in the Bingley Harriers Man Vs Bike 6 mile race. The event is a cross country in which cyclists and runners compete to see who can master the difficult terrain the fastest.

Mark completed the course in 57:24 after a tough hill climb in what was a testing first two miles. This year first and second place were taken by mountain bikers, in previous years the events has been won by both runners and cyclists.
