Belvoir Half Marathon
Grantham Running Club’s William Parkin recorded a personal best in the 30th annual Belvoir Half-marathon on Sunday.
William was one of seven of his club’s runners who were amongst the 497 finishers of the 13.1-mile event that started and finished at Hose, following a rural route through the Vale. He crossed the finish line in 1hr 26min 53sec for 32nd place overall.
Not far behind in season’s best times were Tom Fowler in 1:28:51 for 44th, and first club lady home was Nicky Jefferson in 1:30:47 in 56th, Andrew Pask 62nd in 1:31:54, Stuart Sinclair 81st in 1:33:22, Gavin Meadows 115th in 1:35:42 (PB) and Lucy Roberts 383rd in 2:02:49.
Potentially a PB course, the competitors were unfortunate to deal with gale-force winds. Maybe better luck next year!
GRC’s Marc Tremain made his marathon debut in Paris, finishing in 4:50:04. Marc has been carrying a knee injury and started the race heavily taped. He said: “I survived my marathon, it was horrendous, but glad it’s over.”
Paul Rushworth continued his world tour of running by taking part in the RC Goldline Half-marathon in the Philippines. The 13.1-mile road race began in Cebu City on Cebu Island in the south of the country. To avoid sunstroke, the event began at 4.30am although temperatures were already approaching 30 degrees. Paul finished the race in 1hr 50min and now looks forward to his final race before returning to the UK – the ‘Hard as Nayls’ trail race in Hong Kong.
Grantham RC fielded four athletes in Saturday’s Newark Parkrun. Chris Armstrong was first home in 22:09 for 16th place. Emma Harrington finished in 32:30, crossing the line as the 30th finisher, with Magaretta Murray just a second behind and Melanie Taylor completing the course in 39:32.
Elsewhere, Lucy Roberts took part in the Lanhydrock Parkrun, completing the race in 28:21.
