Beginners Programmes


Grantham Running Club offers beginners programmes aimed specifically at those of just starting out on their running journey. Whether you are starting from scratch, or can already run for 30 minutes and want to develop your running, we have something for you. Age and previous experience are no barrier, as the graduates of our previous beginner’s programmes will tell you. The programmes offer the opportunity to meet like-minded people and train as part of a supportive and friendly group on Mondays and Wednesday evenings.

We’re lucky enough to have a number of qualified and enthusiastic Coaches and Run Leaders to help you achieve your running goals, whatever they may be. All of our UKA coaches and run leaders are UK Athletics trained and DBS checked. You can meet us here.

You set the pace, so don’t be put off if you've just started out. Our goal is to let you set your own targets and help to you safely achieve them.

Our beginner’s sessions are split into three phases:

  • Warm up – We always start with a gentle dynamic warm up with various drills to get your heart rate up and your muscles ready for the main session.
  • Main session - We will tailor the main session to your ability and usually split the group depending the sort of distance you’d like to run on the night.
  • Cool down - We will take you through a series of stretching exercises to help you cool down gradually and improve your flexibility. This will help to prevent you feeling the after effects of your run and prevent injury.
