Grantham Cup

Historic Race: The Grantham Cup was a 10k cross country race that took place for ten years from 2010 during the Belton International Horse Trials. The Horse Trials were staged annually at Belton House over four decades until 2019, when the National Trust decided that the event was having too great an impact on the grounds and was affecting their conservation work.

The race took runners through the beautiful grounds of Belton House, and up the hill to Bellmount Tower and the woods. Not entirely accurately, the route, which included two climbs up to the folly, was described as ‘undulating’. There would be prizes of rosettes for winners in each category and an Oldershaw’s ale and entry to the horse trials for all participants. By the final race in 2019, the Cup had become incredibly popular with CaniX runners, with 46 runners and their dogs participating.

This page is included on our website to ensure that these historical results aren’t lost. We’d love to see another Grantham Cup. Maybe one day!
