DB Wood Newark Half Marathon

The DB Wood Newark Half Marathon took place on the 13th of August 2023 and taking the short journey up the A1 were six Grantham Running Clubs members.

The race starts in the Sconce and Devon Park, site of civil war battles, passes the Ice Age Journey dig, where our ancestors settled over 13,000 years ago, skirts East Stoke, site of the bloodiest civil battle and then through Elston, birthplace of the Darwin family, then back to the Sconce and Devon Park.

704 runners took part in this year’s race. The weather being cooler than that of the 2022 race was very welcome.
First back for GRC with a strong performance was Andrew Devine in 01:23:16 in his first half marathon for GRC.
Robin Atter was next home in 01:28:59 and gained a new PB and beating his old best by a massive 4 minutes.

Adrian Land came home next in 01:33:14, Simon Smith 01:46:06, Tommy Napier 01:59:49 and Wendy Smith 02:33:14.

All runners received a finishers t-shirt, sponsors tote bag and buff.
The race also featured as part of the GRC Club Grand Prix and gave the six members points towards the race series.
The race was won by Daniel Connolly from Bridgnorth in 01:05:56. Sonia Samuels of Sale Harriers Manchester who won the race last year, broke her course record when she crossed the line as the first woman in 01:12:28.
