August 2026 – Caroline Davis

August saw 8 races attended by GRC members, Sleaford 10k being the most popular with 25 members taking part, although rumour has it they were only there for the cake….

Unusually, there were 3 races covering the unenviable “Ultra” distance, showing we had some hardcore members enjoying those longer miles in the summer heat!

Both 5k series in our GP; LWAC and Peterborough saw their last races held in August and there was also attendance at the Dovedale Dipper and another GP race at the Bassingham Bash (5 miler).

Nominees

Susan Copping has been nominated for her 5k PB time of 25:04 at the LWAC 5K Race 4. Susan keeps getting stronger and noting the strong breeze on the night, there is absolutely more to come from Susan in kinder weather conditions!

Our second nominee was Niall Ó Faoláin. Niall continues to show up to various events of varying distance and the improvements keep coming.

Niall performed well in a 5k, 5 miler and even a 6-hour event this month! Since joining GCR Niall has thrown himself into club life and has become chief jelly dealer to all those he runs with.

Runner Up

The runner up for August is Ross Warden. Ross completed the Liverpool to Leeds Canal run, a staggering 130 miles, over 38 hours, 34 minutes and 45 seconds. An amazing achievement to be proud of but we won’t mention the hospital trip shortly afterwards….

Winner

Your winner for the month of August is Caroline Davis! Caroline has caught attention in 2026 for her many ultra distance runs and is truly an “Ultra Queen” but after completing 3 long distance runs in August, there was only 1 winner for her pure grit and determination, seemingly without even breaking a sweat!

Congratulations to Caroline, Ross and all the other nominees.
