Following the 2025 Presentation Night in February, the Committee invited feedback and comments to consider further improvements and after a long period of discussion, the following changes have been implemented;
The Grand Prix and Club Champion Awards will merge into one “GRC Championship”*.
The Club Champion Award and Points Champion are to be retired.
The popular Grand Prix (GP) series will continue to run all year with the elected rounds and the ability to play one joker at a licenced Road Race.
In order to qualify, runners must log at least six (6) scores, a runner can of course compete more than six rounds, it will be the highest six scores used.
This must be composed of at least three different distances, inclusive of the Joker.
For clarity, a parkrun round is NOT a separate distance and will be classified as 5K.
For example; a person can race 2 x 5K, 2 x 10K, 2 x 5 Mile etc. so long as three separate distances are done.
The scoring is calculated by Age Grade percentage and as a point of reference, for the rest of the 2025 Season, Howard Grubb’s 2006/10 criteria will continue to be used.**
As part of the amalgamation, there will be an additional 3rd place and 2nd place award to increase the competition and recognition.
Rationale: the aim of the committee, the supporting feedback and the goal of these changes is to increase the inclusivity of the club with one simple year long calendar of races, that offer accessible and measured competition while still recognising merit.
The previously scored rounds of this year’s GP and Jokers remain unaffected and will count towards the Club Championship*.
*The Grantham Running Club Championship is a working title. the “Grand Prix”, “GP”, “Club Championship” “GRC Championship” and any other references forthwith are all interchangeable terms that mean the same thing!
**As we have started the competition formally known as “2025 GP”, scoring using the Howard Grubb 2006/2010 criteria, this will continue throughout the year to remain consistent. As ever, the GRC Committee welcome feedback, comments and ideas!
We implement and manage the changes YOU want to see. Should it not work out, we can always change or revert back next year.
*Please reach out to the Championship Team if you require any further information, clarification or have any other feedback.*
