June 2025 – Riley Maksymiw-Magan

June saw GRC represented 83 times in various events. The Club Grand Prix’s sole June race was the Peterborough 5k series at Ferry Meadows. The series also had its second race of the month at Eye. Our very own Summer Solstice 10k race was a very impressive highlightfor the club, with lots of high praise received.

June also saw The Valley of the Owls Ultra, Woodhall Spa 10k, Sandringham 10k and LWAC 5k, along with Brolopper Half Marathon which went across both Denmark and Sweden.

Nominees
Peter Jennings has been nominated for 2 excellent performances at completely differing distances. Firstly he impressed at the Eye 5k with a near 71% age grading. Following this, Peter was first GRC home at the Baslow Boot Bash marathon distance with a time of 04:34:57.

Samuel Jepson took part in the Gordon Whelbourn running week at the beginning of June. For those that don’t know, this event consists of 5 x 5k races in 5 days over varying terrain. Not for the faint hearted, Sam excelled at this, finishing in 4th place overall and completing the full 25km in 1 hour 33minutes.

Runner up
The Runner up for June is our very own ‘elite’ athlete, Jake Richardson. Jake became GRC’s first ever winner of the flagship Summer Solstice 10k race with a time of 33:15 and an age grade of nearly 81%.

Winner
There was one runner during June that stood out from the rest. He was knocking on the door in May and carried his great form into two very impressive performances throughout June. Firstly at the Woodhall Spa 10K, he bagged a new PB with a time of 38:25. This was followed up in the Friday evening heat of the Summer Solstice 10k, with another spectacular run and a new PB of 37:46.

Other Mention

Finally, as you all know during June GRC held the Summer Solstice 10k. Think you’ll all agree that this was an amazing success with lots of positive feedback. GRC really was showcased to the region of being more than capable of making the best running event in the area run smoothly. Massive thanks for this has to go to Nicci Whittaker and her team of volunteers for making this happen. Events like this totally rely on volunteers of the club coming together. WELL DONE GRC. 💚🖤

Congratulations to Riley all the nominees for another great month for GRC.
