The Lincoln Wellington Athletics Club (LWAC) 5K Series consists of four races held at Yarborough Sports Ground in Lincoln. The series also forms part of the Grantham Running Club Grand Prix, giving members the opportunity to run any or all of the races, with their fastest 5K time counting towards their Grand Prix score.
Race 3 took place in the middle of yet another heatwave, with runners facing temperatures of around 27°C — certainly not ideal conditions for chasing a fast 5K!
Despite the heat, eight GRC members lined up at the start and all put in fantastic performances, producing some very impressive times in challenging conditions.
There was plenty to celebrate, with two GRC runners achieving official 5K personal bests.
Nicci Whittaker continued her fantastic 5K progress this year, taking another 29 seconds off her previous PB to finish in 24:38.
Marjorie Spendlow also had a brilliant run, recording a 14-second PB with a time of 24:20.
With one race still to go, the LWAC 5K Series isn’t quite finished yet. Race 4, the final event in the series, takes place on Tuesday 25th August 2026.
Alongside the 5K, one GRC member took on the Memory Mile, with Sam Jepson producing another fantastic performance. He crossed the line in 05:14 knocking an impressive 13 seconds off his previous mile PB. Another great result in the heat!
