A hot friday night was the time and the historical home of Lord Byron was the place for the Newstead Abbey Dash 5K.
Organised by Redhill Road Runners, the event offered a challenging out and back course with a downhill start that soon bit runners in the bum with a sharp climb after 1k. The route then headed out to the gatehouse turnaround point near Newstead Village, past fields of excited horses who ran around snorting in support. The finish was in front of the iconic Newstead Abbey itself.
Two GRC members joined the start line which was stuffed with local running talent competing in the Notts AAA champs.
Sylv Hull enjoyed her run, while not setting the world alight she ran a course PB of 24:55.
CJ Walker was spotted out on course cursing the hills but ran strongly, especially towards the finish, crossing the line in 34:29. While not a PB she was pleased with her run given the heat and her lack of racing.
The men’s race was won by Edward Sankey. The first woman over the line was Kiri Marsh.
