October saw the start of the X Country season and GRC represented by 44 runners in 9 different races. The club had strong attendance at both the Great Eastern Half in Peterborough and in Markeaton for the North Midlands X Country. The month saw some great performances in varying distances and plenty of personal bests, making it a tough month to decide on our winners!
Nominees
We start with our new leader, Sylv Hull. Sylv put in a strong performance at the Great Eastern Half, bagging her first sub 2-hour half marathon, comfortably coming in at 01:58:23, a massive 7 minute PB.
Next we have Samuel Jepson who shaved exactly 3 minutes off his previous best, set earlier in the year. He ran a consistent race at the Great Eastern Half posting 40:04 at halfway and 39:51 for the second half, finishing the 13.1 mile distance in a very impressive 01:19:55.
Our runner up, also for his Great Eastern performance, was Piers Pye-Watson. This was his first time clocking under the 80-minute mark, crossing the line in 01:19:09, giving him an amazing 4 minute PB.
Member of the Month
The decision was a tough one this month and we have a tie for the October Member of the Month title.
Your first Member of the Month is Emma Duncan! Emma has had a strong year making continuous improvements, and her upward trajectory continued at the Great Eastern Half where she was rewarded for her hard efforts with a time of 01:48:02, giving her an improvement of over 5 minutes.
Our 2nd Member of the Month is Joe Clarke! Joe also raced in Peterborough and managed to improve by exactly 2 minutes on his previous years time there, clocking an impressive 01:19:19. Showing his consistent training and strong marathon earlier in the year paying off.
Congratulations to both Emma and Joe, our Members of the Month for October
