Odyssey 12

Saturday 5th July saw husband and wife team Kate and Fraser Marshall of Grantham Running Club participate in the Odyssey 12 hour trail race in St Neots, Cambridgeshire.

Taking place in Regatta Meadow at St Neots Riverside Park, the course comprised of a 7k trail loop through park and meadow, with several crossings of the River Great Ouse.

Staged as part of a larger triathlon weekend, the looped trail race saw competitors complete as many laps of the course as possible within the 12 hour period as solo runners, pairs or teams.

The trail runners were also joined during the later part of the day by the triathletes running a marathon after a long day of swimming and cycling!

Kate completed 8 laps for 56k in just over 9 hours, before blisters led her to call it a day.

Fraser completed 7 laps for 49k in 9 hours 40, in his first foray beyond marathon distance.

The event was well organised, with a great social atmosphere, and is a low-key and friendly introduction to looped racing. Runners received a striking medal as a momento of the event.

The solo race winner and first female was Alex Marshall (no relation!) with an impressive 17 laps completed.
