Ponton Plod

On Sunday 6th September seven members of Grantham Running Club took part in the annual Ponton plod, which starts and finishes in Ponton village and is organized by Notfast running club.

Runners can choose from 4 distances; 26.4 miles, 17 miles, 12 mile and 10km and proceeds from the event go to charity.  This year £1,800 was raised for The Children’s Bereavement Centre and £1,800 went to Newark Orchard School.

GRC fielded four runners in the longest and most demanding distance. Catherine Payne and Robert McArdle were first home for the club, finishing strongly in 4:48:29.

Cameron Hoggan followed in 5:32:39 and Caroline Davis completed the team’s effort with a determined run of 5:38:15.

Husband-and-wife duo Mark and Karen Carter both tackled the 17‑mile course, finishing together in a well‑paced 3:43:51.

In the 12‑mile race, Robin Atter led the GRC contingent and delivered a strong performance, finishing second overall in 1:43:32. He was followed by Sarah High, who completed the distance in a solid 2:04:46.

All runners were welcomed back with complimentary tea, coffee, cakes, and desserts, a much‑appreciated treat after a challenging day on the trails.
