On a wet and cold Mother’s Day, 1,330 runners took to the roads of Stamford and Burghley, joined by 19 runners from Grantham Running Club. Despite the wet conditions from the start, GRC were in fine spirits and unfazed by the mud.
The 7-mile mixed terrain route started off in the stunning grounds of Burghley House estate, on the driveway heading towards the Tudor gatehouse of Bottle Lodges. Runners then headed out onto the gorgeous traffic-free Georgian streets of Stamford. They then looped through woodland, the deer park and rolling fields up some lovely hills that makes running fun, before heading back into the private area of the estate where the runners were treated to a downhill finish in front of the spectacular Burghley House.
GRC produced some fine running, with some taking on the challenge for the first time.
It was a family affair for the Wallaces with Catherine, Daniel and their daughter Katie setting off together. Daniel took an early lead, leaving Catherine and Katie to run the route together.
