Cleethorpes New Year’s Day 10K

One member of Grantham Running club made the trip over to the seaside town of Cleethorpes for the New Year’s Day event put on by Cleethorpes AC.

Rick Dobbs was running for the third time at his home town event. The course is flat, fast but exposed to the elements in a few places.

The course consists of 2 small laps starting at the leisure centre, before heading away on a larger loop to finish on the seafront. With a strong wind on a few sections of the course the wind was nowhere near as bad as was forecast.

With lots of bewildered people with heavy heads from the night before, 490 runners took the streets. Rick came home in a time of 45:52, this was a 32 second 10k PB and a 7 min and 36 course PB.

Rick said “I went out too hard for the first mile and suffered for it later on, but I’m happy with my time and excited for what the year ahead brings, hopefully some warmer events”.

Matt Bowser of Lincoln Wellington AC took the overall win in a time of 31:49 for his fifth victory at the event.

Sophie Wallis of Lincoln Wellington AC took the female victory in a time of 33:35.
