Equinox24 – Solo

Grantham Running Club had just 2 solo entrants for this years event. Matthew Atter and Luke Turner had completely differing training schedules, with Luke being injured for most of the year, and Matthew’s training being fairly consistent including a few 6 hour training events.

Luke’s longest run this year prior to equinox was 5 miles so he was pleased to do 3 laps straight from the off and then to return for a victory lap on Sunday morning, completing 4 laps and 24 miles for the event.

Matthew had slightly different aims and went off confidently. Towards the end of lap 4, the heat started to take its toll and he had to stop for a short while after feeling unwell. Following some food and a short rest, Matthew went off again and found his rhythm with laps 5 and 6 being his most enjoyable.

As the night laps came he powered on through reaching his target of 10 laps by 4:30am. After recharging back in the tent for a couple of hours, he set off on his 11th lap at 8:45am and was extremely happy to end his 12th lap after 23:30 hours. Matthew finished on 12 laps and 73 miles.
