What a weekend for Team Belvoir Fever at Equinox 24! With four returning members and four runners new to the event, the team threw themselves into the challenge from the outset.
Conditions stayed dry throughout the weekend, albeit with a fairly brisk breeze.
Riley Maksymiw led the team out and set the tone for a fantastic weekend, completing three pacey laps with a fastest time of an impressive 40:33. His enthusiasm and energy were infectious, helping to set the team up perfectly for what would turn out to be an excellent event.
Next up was first-timer David Poole, who put in five strong laps and clearly enjoyed the camaraderie that comes with a team event. His quickest lap was 40:25. David said that, despite the event being made up of repeated laps, he found it encouraging to be part of a club made up of such inspiring people. He also never stopped eating.
Returning for his third year at the event, Team Captain Russel Whittaker completed four laps, with his and the team’s fastest lap coming in at 39:34. Russel commented that the cooler temperature and weather during the nighttime lap made it extremely enjoyable. He described his team as well-motivated and hard-working, and this was certainly demonstrated by their unexpected podium finish.
Sam Jepson, a veteran at the event, put in four consistently strong laps. He particularly enjoyed the nighttime running, describing the experience as “pure bliss”. His fastest lap was 40:22.
Andrew Pask was another consistent presence throughout the weekend. Although this was his first time at Equinox, he brought his experience from taking part in similar events, completing four laps with his fastest time being 49:53.
Returning to the event once again, Peter Jennings commented on the tenacious approach shown by the team and the club as a whole. He loved hearing other clubs cheering and complimenting GRC on their efforts. He completed four laps, with his fastest coming in at an impressive 47:23.
Another first-timer, Niall Ó Faoláin embraced the challenge of the course and completed four laps. A sunrise lap was a particular highlight of his weekend, with his fastest lap recorded at 48:59.
Finally, Liam Whittaker, the youngest member of the team and new to the club, dug deep to complete three laps, recording a fastest lap time of 48:25. Equinox is an event that Liam will undoubtedly continue to get stronger at.
Across the weekend, the team showed exactly what makes these events special — consistency, determination, camaraderie and plenty of encouragement for one another. With returning runners mixing with those experiencing the event for the first time, Team Belvoir Fever represented the club brilliantly and secured a well-earned 3rd place.
A fantastic weekend all round — well done to everyone who took part and contributed to another memorable Equinox!
