Humber Half Marathon

At the end of September two members of Grantham Running Club lined up with over 1000 others to run the rearranged and well organised Humber bridge half marathon.

A fine, bright sunny morning saw the runners head out towards the bridge with a slight incline and a nice long downward section into Lincolnshire. The scenic route took runners alongside the Humber and into to the Lincolnshire countryside.

The notorious Hill, known by all as Cardiac Hill, tested the resolve of most of the athletes as they headed back towards the bridge. The nice decent outbound became a testing climb back into Hull in the last couple of miles to go.

First back for GRC was Clive George with a new 10 minute PB of 1:37:59 and second in his age category.

He was followed by Richard Urquhart in a good time of 2:8:49.

Also sneaking in under the radar was Jon Whittaker who thought by forgetting his PE kit he’d be able to go by unnoticed.

Sadly his plan failed and he was spotted in the background of Richard’s photos. He crossed the line in 2:05:05.
