On the 21st December, 9 members of Grantham Running Club managed to cram in one last race at the Nottingham Holme Run which took place at the National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepont. The course consisted of pancake flat loop(s) round the regatta lake with options for a half marathon, 10K and 5K.
Murky and damp conditions with a mist that covered the lake so you (mercifully) couldn’t see too far ahead were spot on for running and the well organised and supported event had a great atmosphere with live music around the lake.
Nick Payne took part in the half marathon, posting a time of 2:12:54.
Taking part in the 10K after a very busy competitive winter was Kev Wallace. He enjoyed the course and atmosphere and while he faded a little in miles 5 and 5, he rallied for a fast last mile. He was very pleased to get under 45 minutes with a time of 44:19 and 2nd in his age category.

Also running in the 10K were Anne Fleming (58:27) and Emma Hopkinson (1:04:19).
In the 5K, it was a Carley family affair with Alan churning out a season’s best time of 20:41 despite feeling sore (is he ever not?) and first in his age category. Daughter Sophie who has recently joined the club also ran brilliantly, crossing the line in 21:31, definitely one to watch!

Sylv Hull was pleased just to make the start line after a club social the night before and ran an unremarkable 25:14 which she was pretty happy with.

Kate Marshall set out to attain a 60% age grading and more than delivered, her time of 26:56 netted her a new PB and put her well over the 60% so she was very happy indeed. She also won her age category.
Tracy Webb also ran strongly despite battling a cold, finishing in 30:11 and reaching a 60% age grading which was her aim. After a very light year of racing, she really enjoyed the event and will return.
Everyone commented on how well organised the event was with a splendid medal and goodies at the end. Definitely one to recommend.
