The 141st Saturday parkrun in Watermead Country Park, Leicester, saw 346 people run, walk, hop, skip or dance around two lakes and along five kilometres of path. They were supported by 30 hi vis hero volunteers. The theme for the week was colours, with a celebration of National Colouring Day advertised in advance by the event team. There was also a colour theme of green and black, as 35 Grantham Running Club members finished as part of their Club Grand Prix.
In terms of the faster finishers, the five parkrunners with the best age gradings were Catherine Payne and George Buttery, who both achieved over the 80% national level competitors, followed by Kirsty Dale, Robert Howbrook and Peter Bonner. Catherine, Robert and Peter are all from GRC, and indeed we got 7 of the top 15 age gradings.
There were an amazing 64 people who completed their first Watermead parkrun today, with 17 of them coming from Grantham and 17 people completing their first ever parkrun. There were also 8 people earning parkrun t-shirts today, with Peter Bonner from GRC completing his 500th parkrun, having started in July 2011 at Colwick.
The full results are shown below, with an amazing 11 runners from Grantham having been the first parkrunners home in their age category – Peter BONNER, Alan CARLEY, Robert HOWBROOK, Paul JEPSON, Samuel JEPSON, Tommy NAPIER, Catherine PAYNE, Marjorie SPENDLOW, Hannah WHITTAKER, Liam WHITTAKER and Zoe WRAGG.
The event concluded with cake that was provided to all parkrunners by Peter Bonner and other members of GRC.
