Sunday 1st March was the date of the North Lincolnshire 10K and Half Marathon race. Both courses are run on closed roads with super flat long straights, starting at Quibble Park Stadium in Scunthorpe. Runners were also blessed with beautiful sunshine and no precipitation of any type. However, the strong winds did impede many runners as they ran across roads surrounded by flat fields with very little shelter.
The race was previously run by Tape2Tape but was handed over to a different company this year. There was some criticism of various aspects of the race organisation this year, which is a shame as the course is flat with great PB potential.
Grantham Running Club were represented by 10 enthusiastic athletes. Finishing first for the club was
Peter Bonner (1:25:50). Peter is proving that consistency is key as he prepares for London Marathon in the spring, putting in a strong performance despite being hampered by the strong winds which were particularly unforgiving to runners gifted with height. Adrian Land was deservedly pleased with his time of 1:33:39.
Mr Resilience, Mr Alan Carley completed the event in 1:35:26, his KT tape hanging on by a thread. On the recovery from injury, Holly Durham used the race to test her current fitness and earned herself a time of 1:37:09, a great platform to build on for the rest of the year. Hannah Land ran well, earning herself an official course PB of 1:41:46. Jo Grace thoroughly enjoyed the sunshine, especially after battling through a snowy Stamford 30k, and was extremely pleased (and slightly confused) to find herself crossing the line in a PB time 1:44:44. Sophie Carley finished her run in 1:55:28.
Ashley Bailey has been putting in some impressive work in his build up to his first marathon and the effort paid off with a half marathon time of 1:56:47.
Anne Fleming put in a strong performance 2:09:45. Katherine Thompson was pleased to make her debut at the North Lincs Half Marathon and enjoyed the race and finished in 2:13:15.
The Half Marathon was won by Rob Payne in 1:08:28 in the men’s category and Charlie Thornton in a time of 1:15:47 for the women’s.
