March 2025 – Alan Carley

March saw 55 runners representing GRC at various distances, ranging from 10k to the first major marathon of the year in Tokyo.

Round 4 and 5 of the Grand Prix also took place with half marathons at North Lincs and Retford.

Nominees

It seems if you wanted a new half marathon personal best in March then the North Lincs Half Marathon was the place to be.

Firstly we had Joe Clarke again going sub 80 mins.

Jonathon Gilbert took 3 minutes off his previous best sticking with the pacers to go under 1:40 for the first time. Both Holly Wragg and Zoë Wragg used their marathon training fitness to bag new personal bests by 2 minutes and 5 minutes respectively.

Ross Warden claimed some redemption from his Benidorm half last year by achieving a new personal best in the Kew Gardens half marathon by 4 minutes.

Runner up

The Runner up for March is James McMullen. Having spent most of the second half of 2024 nursing an injury, James is finding some form having come back to consistent training. At the Retford Half Marathon, James achieved a massive 11 minute personal best.

Winner

The Winner of the Member of the Month for March is Alan Carley. Alan bettered his half marathon personal best by 90 seconds at the North Lincs Half Marathon. Not one to rest, Alan then bettered this new PB by over 2 more minutes at the Retford Half Marathon just 2 weeks later. All this in preparation for the Boston Marathon in April.

Alan rings the PB bell again!

Well done to Alan, James, and all the nominees.
